Artist Statement
“My work has evolved from a fascination and reverence for nature. I am intrigued with the intricacies of colors and patterns of birds, plants and organic forms occurring in nature. This has led me to create detailed studies, both representational and abstract that mark a journey into my world. Often one inspiration springs from another, creating a series of ideas or themes for my paintings. Taking walks and stumbling upon the simplest detail such as a wire seemingly growing around a tree trunk becomes an idea for a drawing which often evolves into something much more symbolic. This is the food that nourishes and energizes my ideas to completion.I am currently striving to learn as much as I can about the behavior of birds, their anatomical structure and their habitats so that I can best represent their true character. I choose specific subjects to represent because they move me emotionally and visually. Colors and patterns play an important role, as well. I look for striking contrasts between a subject and its environment and I am always scanning for a potential composition in my mind’s eye at the same time I am taking in its beauty.
I am constantly striving to improve my skills as an artist and to indulge in every opportunity to experiment with new techniques to hone these skills. To me this is the blissful challenge.”
